Pain Perdu, or French toast, transforms stale bread into a delightful breakfast or brunch dish. Soaked in a creamy egg mixture and fried to a crispy golden brown, it’s deliciously sweet and comforting.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices stale bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Butter for frying
  • Maple syrup or powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla.
  2. Soak bread slices in the mixture until well-coated.
  3. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Fry bread slices until golden and crispy on both sides.
