Baklava is a rich and sweet pastry with layers of flaky phyllo dough, crunchy nuts, and a spiced honey syrup. It’s a decadent treat that’s perfect for special occasions or as a delightful end to any meal.

Ingredients

  • 400 g phyllo dough
  • 300 g walnuts or pistachios, finely chopped
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking dish.
  2. Layer phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter. Sprinkle with a mixture of nuts, cinnamon, and a bit of sugar.
  3. Continue layering and adding nut mixture until all ingredients are used, ending with phyllo dough.
  4. Cut into diamond or square shapes before baking. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
  5. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, honey, and vanilla, and bring to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes, then pour over the hot baklava.
  6. Let cool completely before serving. Enjoy!
